St.Edwards

The school year is coming to an end, and as happy as I am to have a break before beginning my senior year, I'm a little sad my first year in Austin has gone by so quickly. Times like these make me appreciate being a photo major, though I will not miss paying to do laundry.

Downtown San Antonio

Spilled the salsa at Rio Rio Cantina.

I was home a few weeks ago, and was lucky enough to have a day to myself, so I headed for downtown early, and spent the day shooting pictures. San Antonio culture is very unique- it is one of the largest growing cities in the country, but it has always felt very much like a small town.

Downtown Houston

I went to Houston a few weeks ago to visit with family and friends, I spent some time documenting downtown, and places near my old neighborhood.

Portraits

I've studying portraiture for a while, but I still have a lot to learn. I've gotten better with studio portraiture, but I still prefer working with people in natural light, and in their natural enviroments. Studio photography can be really fun, and there is more control, but I like capturing authentic moments.

Food Photography

I've always been interested in the culinary arts, particularly in pastries. Recently, I've been trying to combine my love of food with my photography. Working in a studio is actually more enjoyable than I expected, and it gives me an excuse to make and buy things I like to eat.

Downtown B&W

Here's a few shots from documenting downtown with the large format. I decided to use B&W film because it has a more timeless feel to it, plus it's way cheaper than color film. I like the way the pictures turned out, I accurately captured the scenes, but I think the compositions look dream-like and somewhat surreal.

Downtown Austin

Walking down Guadalupe with my SLR:

I've always been interested in finding the beauty of everyday things, and finding beauty in what is typically considered "unnattractive", or something people wouldn't usually see. I enjoy talking to people I would usually meet, and being allowed to observe and document their lives, even if it is just for a little while.

Photography

As a Photography student, I have always been interested in photojournalism and documentary photography. I spend a lot of my spare time documenting downtown in cities.

Recently, I've been working with a large format camera,to document downtown- focusing on graffiti/wall art, and everyday interactions. The large camera is bulky, heavy, and attracts a lot of stares, but I'm looking for a new way to capture the interesting settings and composition of everyday life in Austin.
